Nature Canada is one of the oldest national nature conservation charities in Canada, helping to protect countless species, parks and wildlife areas in Canada. I have designed magazine and billboard ads, illustrated online graphics and developed the logo, branding and marketing materials for the Nature-Based Climate Solutions Summit.
Providing expertise to industry and government leaders, the Pembina Institute advocates for a strong science-based approach to policy regulation, environmental protection and energy development. Having worked with the Institute for 15 years, I have designed countless infographics, reports, donor campaigns, templates and websites. I also did a brand refresh and led the complete overhaul of the main website which included design, web strategy, site architecture, copywriting, project planning, staff training and website administration. Osprey is Nelson's community foundation, distributing grants to a variety of charitable organizations to positively impact our community. They receive charitable gifts that are endowed – pooled and invested carefully – to provide a perpetual source of income to meet our community needs. The The energy transition requires more than just technological advancement. The Energy Futures Lab is an Alberta-based coalition of diverse innovators and leading organizations working together to accelerate the transition to the energy system the future requires of us. After doing a branding refresh that included refining the logo, creating brand guidelines and developing a series of icons and graphics, I restructured and redesigned the Energy Futures Lab website to better communicate the unique qualities of the organization that works in a polarized political landscape. The Business Renewables Centre is a modern marketplace where corporations and institutions can learn how to buy renewable energy directly from developers. Through the website, events and publications, BRC-Canada generates awareness, builds strong community and creates tools and services to simplify and accelerate large-scale renewable energy use across Canada. BRC-Canada is a Pembina Institute and Rocky Mountain Institute initiative.

The Nest Lab is a social innovation lab advancing collaborative community action on climate change in Nelson.
I designed the single-page website along with all the other needed assests, including PDF primers and reports. I also refined the logo and scripted the various videos produced for the lab. The Waldorf education is designed to reignite children’s imagination, self-esteem, and students to use their agency, while inspriring skills to create change. After refreshing their branding (including logo, colours, typefaces), I redesigned their website and several pieces of collateral. This award winning documentary film by Amy Bohigian follows a colourful group of candidates along the campaign trail as they seek to win the votes of the hyper-engaged citizens whose town is in crisis over how to move forward amidst the wave of global populism encroaching on their counter-culture haven.
When creating custom icons I ensure they communicate an idea, action or object effectively, with a common style that is inline with the branding of the project. This selection of icons were for a variety of clients including: Carson Integrated, the Pembina Institute, Mountain Waters Spa, Goldfinch Energy, Business Renewal Centre Canada, Motive is the Message, and Nature Canada.
APF Canada is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to strengthening ties between Canada and Asia with a focus areas that include education, sustainabilty, trade and investment, and regional security. I redesigned the website with an emphasis on the user experience and "downplaying" the design so the site would still feel relevant years later.

It’s a functional beverage with multiple health benefits and you can easily make it yourself. Happy Gut sells water kefir beverages and fermentation kits to make your own water kefir at home.

When the Nelson Public Library launched an exciting new expansion project, the reality of needing funding created an opportunity to collaborate with the Kootenay Co-op. Seasonings: a year of local flavour in words and recipes is a literary cookbook that celebrates growing food, eating well and embracing the four seasons. The success of this fundraiser led to the making of a second cookbook, where Nelson chefs were asked for their best-loved recipes and books. The result was Pairings: inspired food, inspiring words, a delicious fusion of the culinary and the creative.
Both were printed and bound in Canada on recycled FSC certified paper with vegetable based inks. Seasonings was short-listed in the 2011 Canadian Culinary Book Awards.
"May I take your photo?" is how Ryan Oakley shed light on the characters and stories of Nelson, British Columbia. Humans of Nelson is a local take on the popular Humans of New York. This 232-page hardcover book is printed and bound in Canada on recycled FSC certified paper with vegetable based inks.

Originally published in 1981, A Curious Cage is the personal diary of Peggy Abkhazi of Victoria, British Columbia, who was held in a civilian internment camp in Shanghai by the Japanese during WWII. I designed a new cover for it’s 3rd edition using artwork from the University of Victoria. Published by Sono Nis Press.

Back in the day, the MEC catalogue was a primary source of information for co-op members. Mailed to approximately 530,000 members nationwide in both official languages, the catalogue was a staple for Canadian outdoor enthusiasts. I was very excited to work extensively on the Fall + Winter MEC catalogue while on contract with MEC.
I was responsible for laying out product pages and creating all the non-product pages, including the very successful Big Wild teaser (concept created with Philip Torrens) and the sustainability page (concept created with Philip Torrens and photographed by Linda Mackie).
Club nights and events celebrating 60's English R&B, Classic and Northern Soul, Brit Pop and Indie Rock. Examples shown include handbills for a tribute to the late Joe Strummer and a replication of the 1967 movie Blow Up for The Mod Club in Vancouver. Handbills for two Transatlantic events in Edmonton, a poster for the Vancouver and Montreal Mod Club's Halloween party (illustration appropriated from the Penguin edition of the Anthony Burgess novel, A Clockwork Orange) and a poster for Edmonton's One Night Stand.
Trips for Kids Vancouver is a non-profit society dedicated to enabling youth with barriers to experience mountain trails. Downbeat is their interactive social event that showcases video and still photography, live performances and a silent auction. The design of the 2008 and 2009 posters prominently feature images by presenting photographers (Kari Medig and Ian Hylands).
Beyond client work, I am often designing my own promotional materials, creating gifts or doing some sort of project that is fun.
Given the opportunity to use a laser cutter, I built a mini forest and some wooden Forest logos.
Interviewing creatives for a new podcast was inspiring, so I designed a set of “you inspire me” cards to give each guest so they could help share my notion that the motive is the message.
It is no secret... I love riding bicycles. I designed a series of t-shirts celebrating the noblest invention and its virtuous trajectory titled all bikes go to heaven.
When it was time to sponsor youth soccer, I teamed up with my two elementary aged kids to design a jersey graphic that they would actually want to wear.
Imagine the shock when an ultrasound was taken showing that the addition to our family was already riding a bike! The image was used to announce our big news to family and friends.
Handwritten letters are still sent in my family, so an official wax seal needed to be designed. I created a two headed cat, imagining our two black cats merging into one evil force for good.
